1140 Formosa is a building of eleven houses with double facade designed by Lorcan Architects Oherlihy [Loha] in West Hollywood [California]. The project presents an interesting opportunity to create and include an urban park in private development.

This new unit housing project is located in the heart of West Hollywood.

Planning emphasizes the central importance of open space within urban and residential scale.

In the interior space creates a park that occupies approximately one third (4,600 square feet) parcel of the project.

The park is a spatial and sensory component of the project planning itself. Given the distribution of roads in the plot and urbanistic apovechamiento the same, the needs and the opportunity to do something different materialized in a series of negotiations between the developer and City Hall.

The interior is very modern, taking into account the limitations inherent in a residential project.

As a result of the transfer of common open space outside the building and push aside cross ventilation is achieved for each unit.

External circulation is used as a buffer between the public and private and articulated through layers of perforated metal and small openings.

The placement of siding and interior skin fenestration creates an effect of activity and modernity. The movement of the facade and the color rise of full and empty in the front creates an attractive and peculiar to this residential complex.

The outer skin also continues west towards the cooling unit, acting as a screen and a shading device.

The layout of this area of the park as a result a series of negotiations between the Habitat Group Los Angeles, LLC (Developer), loha (Architect) and the city the benefit of all parties involved. The outcome of these negotiations is leasing the park to the city of West Hollywood, to develop as part of a network of small parks throughout the city. This effort also helped Habitat Group Los Angeles take advantage of certain incentives and concessions for the construction of zoning proposals.

The group incorporates into its project a first step for future training of a mosaic of parks through the green network in Los Angeles.

The park is accessible to the general public of the city.
