Overlooking the Sunwapta Valley along the Colombia Ice Fields in Alberta, Canada, the Discovery Walk is conceived as an extension of the landscape, one that projects from the cutting face of the hillside to housing and not only educate visitors, but to expose and amaze them. The project weaves a continuous thread of experience through unified geometric shapes and materials, the definition of Discovery Walk not only as a unique destination but as a catalyst and the runway where guests experience the environment without touching in a way never before .
Sturgess Architecture, RJC and PCL came together to design the winner of the competition for the latest tourist attraction Brewster in Alberta, Canada.
Sturgess Architecture Canadian company designed a platform for displaying glass cantilevered over a glacial valley in Colombia Icefield Jasper National Park in Alberta, Canada.
Brewster called Discovery of roadway, the project also involves building a bridge 400 meters into the mountainside.
Sturgess Architecture won the competition in collaboration with engineers from RJC and PCL construction company.
The project is expected to open to the public next year.
Overview
Canada Travel Brewster (Brewster) intends to develop exciting new visitor experience at the point of view the Tangle Ridge Parkway Icefield in Jasper National Park.
The discovery of the glacier hike, since it is known, consist of a 400 meter walk interpretation and an observation deck with glass floor extends 30 meters along the Sunwapta Valley. Glacier Discovery Tour will allow visitors to interact with this spectacular landscape in a way that was previously not accessible to most park visitors Jasper. The discovery of the glacier hike will consist of three integrated components:
The Reception area: Visitors come to the site through a free ride bus 6.5 km from the Glacier Discovery Centre. From there, visitors have the option to watch the stunning scenery from the viewpoint of free public (now the north end detachment area) or buy an admission ticket for an interpretive walk along The road that leads to the discovery of the stunning views of the Vista Discovery.
The discovery of the route, visitors can experience a guided interpretive walk along a catwalk 400 meters overlooking the Sunwapta Valley. The tour will include interpretive stations include ecology, geology, glaciology, Aboriginal history and social history of the area.
The Discovery Vista: The last stop on the trip will be an observation deck with glass floor extends 30 meters above the Sunwapta Valley. The Discovery Vista will allow visitors to participate in this spectacular landscape in a way that was not previously accessible to most park visitors Jasper.
