Perm Museum. Russia. Asymptote Architecture proposal.

The most ambitious architectural competition of the new Russia was held in 2007.



PermMuseumXXI was a contest for the best project of the new museum center building in Perm, Russia.

Organizer: AC / Centre of Contemporary Architecture in Moscow.


The museum center PermMuseumXXI isa new building for Perm Art Gallery. This is the first museum in Russia which was built to meet the needs of the 21st century.

The competition for the design of the building was to be an exceptional work of contemporary architecture and modern art museum in Russia.

The new building was conceived as a business card to the Perm region and as the same brand as the Guggenheim in Bilbao by Frank Gehry, Kiasma Museum in Helsinki, by Steven Holl, the Museum of Graz by Peter Cook, Arts Centre Contemporary in Cincinnati, by Zaha Hadid.

The 25 participants of the 2nd tour were stars of architecture as well as young promising architects from around the world. The Jury session was very intense and lasted two days.

The Competition Jury decided to share the first and second place between two parties.

Among the proposals is to Asymptote rescued or originality and timeliness.

Asymptote received an Honorable Mention in the competition to design a new building for the Museum of Perm in Russia.

Asymptote's design was focused on a building with two components: a bottom chrome and ebony large territory rather than forming a complex combination of materials.

At the same time he proposed a final investment landscape by building organic cover and interior layout.

The building was also an area of gestures that move above the organic control that occurs in all areas, the dialectic of the two properties sought to create a unique building powerful.
